Dear Minister,

Re: Southern Rail - ongoing industrial action

I am writing to express my concern regarding the ongoing disruption to Southern Rail services which is having a terrible impact on many of my constituents – some of whom are seriously having to consider looking for other jobs. Constituents travelling to and from St Helier, Mitcham Eastfields and Mitcham Junction stations are particularly adversely affected.

My constituents have to pay extortionate ticket prices, and receive an absolutely appalling service in exchange.

I am pleased to see that Southern Rail will be engaging with direct talks with the government, in an attempt to solve this dispute. I ask you to intervene and come to a long-term solution to this ongoing problem.  It is clear to me that Southern Rail is not working – so I ask you to consider transferring these services to the Mayor of London. Transport for London clearly has the experience and proven track record of running world-class public transport in the capital. This issue is beyond party politics – and it is affecting the quality of life of thousands of people.   I sincerely hope you will reconsider your position on Southern Rail.

I very much look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,
Siobhain McDonagh MP
