Christmas

There is so much to celebrate and enjoy across our constituency over the coming weeks and I just wanted to ensure you had received the dates and times for all that is taking place this Christmas.

Christmas Day Dinner, Churches Together in Mitcham

Churches Together in Mitcham are generously offering a free Christmas dinner on Christmas Day for anyone who will be alone this Christmas. There will be a traditional 3 course Christmas dinner served at 1pm in Vestry Hall (336-338 London Road, Cricket Green, Mitcham, CR4 3UD) and a vegetarian option will be available. Doors will open from 11am and there is even free minibus transport if booked in advance. To book a space, please contact Councillor Sally Kenny on 0208 337 2879 or 07846331851. Sally can also be emailed at sally.kenny@merton.gov.uk. Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers and Churches Together in Mitcham for such a thoughtful event this Christmas Day.

The Alexandra Pub

Alternatively, if you will be alone this Christmas Day, why not head down to the fantastic Alexandra Pub in Wimbledon (33 Wimbledon Hill Road, SW19 7NE)? The pub is right next to Wimbledon Station and is once again inviting anybody who will be on their own this Christmas to join them for a free Christmas day dinner. On offer is a 3-course meal, mince pies, sherry and lovely company! No booking is required, just turn up! Thank you to all at the pub for their generosity and kindness.

Tinsel 10k Run

Why not head down to Morden Hall Park on 23rd December where there will be a free fun run to celebrate the festive season. Runners are invited to put on their best Christmas costume (or their running kit!) for a beautiful 10k run through Morden Hall Park. Runners should meet at 08:30am near the White Bridge and there will even be breakfasts sold from 8am!

These hours have been verified; however it is still advisable to check that the pharmacy is open first. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are not bank holidays so most pharmacies should be open as normal. However, some may be closed or offering reduced hours so it is always advisable to call your pharmacy to check.

Please be aware that NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones and you should use this service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it's not a life-threatening situation, or if you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency.

Waste Collection Service

I have been advised by Merton Council that the recycling, rubbish and garden waste collections for the Christmas period will change as follows, unless you live in a flat above a shop, in which case please put your bags out as normal.
